To apply for Regular Membership in the firefighter association, you must:
- Be employed by the Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) at the time of application,
- Not have been expelled from the Association,
- Be in good standing with the CFD, meaning no charges, disciplinary actions, or pending actions at the time of application. Joining this association not only enhances your professional standing but also allows you to actively contribute to your community impact while enjoying various membership benefits.
To be considered for membership in our firefighter association, applicants must secure recommendations from:
- At least two regular members in good standing, who understand the community impact of our mission, and

All applicants, except Honorary candidates, must submit a completed membership application to join the firefighter association and enjoy the various membership benefits that contribute to our community impact.
Applicants to the firefighter association must gain acceptance through a majority vote of the General Body. If an applicant receives a majority ‘no’ vote, they have the option to appeal to the General Body or wait six (6) months before reapplying, during which they can consider the community impact and membership benefits that come with being part of the association.
If accepted into the firefighter association:
Applicants accepted within one (1) year must pay two months of back dues to enjoy the membership benefits associated with community impact.
Applicants accepted after one (1) year are required to pay four months of back dues upon acceptance.
Membership becomes active upon payment of the required dues.
Individuals who may not qualify for Regular Membership in the firefighter association may, at the discretion of the membership, be granted Special or Honorary Membership. These Special and Honorary members can contribute to community impact in various ways. They may attend meetings and participate in special CAFA events as permitted by the President, although they do not receive full voting privileges. Additionally, members in good standing who retire from CFD automatically become Honorary Members and are not required to pay monthly dues, allowing them to enjoy certain membership benefits even after their active service.
Members in good standing who retire from the firefighter association will receive valuable membership benefits, including retired membership privileges, upon payment of the IABPFF Lifetime Membership fee, as outlined in the Constitution. This approach ensures a lasting community impact for our retired members.
